Training

I can arrange training for the following topics:

Training can be done on or off site. Hours of training can be arranged to suit your needs. The training is performed by me (Sylvie Nickerson) or by Bill Nickerson, a professional corporate trainer who has prepared some of the courses and course material.

I will be offering scheduled classes as well. Currently I plan to offer scheduled dates in Huntsville and North Bay. I will also consider offering the courses in other areas throughout Ontario if there is sufficient interest.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods: (Clear Language Regulations)

This is a certification course which is designed to train drivers and personnel who transport and handle dangerous goods. These courses can be tailored to your specific needs.

General prohibition

No person shall handle, offer for transport, transport or import any dangerous goods unless:

  • the person complies with all applicable prescribed safety requirements;
  • the goods are accompanied by all applicable prescribed documents; and
  • the means of containment and transport comply with all applicable prescribed safety standards and display all applicable prescribed safety marks.

Carrier

a person who has possession of dangerous goods while they are in transport

Consignor

a person who:

  1. is named in a shipping document as consignor;
  2. imports or who will import dangerous goods into Canada; or
  3. has possession of dangerous goods immediately before they are in transport.

Handling

means loading, unloading, packing or unpacking dangerous goods in a means of containment for the purposes of, in the course of or following transportation and includes storing them in the course of transportation.

Offer for Transport

means, for dangerous goods not in transport, to select or allow the selection of a carrier to transport the dangerous goods, to prepare or allow the preparation of the dangerous goods so that a carrier can take possession of them for transport or to allow to take possession of the dangerous goods for transport.

Hours of Service: (log books) (Ontario Regulation 555/06)

This course is designed to educate drivers and personnel to understand the commercial vehicle drivers' hours of service Regulations which govern the maximum driving times and minimum off duty times of commercial vehicle drivers employed in transportation. The course demonstrates how drivers are to keep a record of their daily driving and other work activities in a prescribed format. This training is available for Ontario and U.S. Regulations, if required. Some drivers are exempt from the requirements of this Regulation. It includes information on both the Ontario and Federal Regulations.

NOTE: Both the Ontario and Federal regulations are in force as of January 1, 2007. There are minor differences between the two but the basics are identical.

Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections: (Trip Inspections) (Ontario Regulation 199/07)

This course is designed to educate drivers and personnel to understand the commercial motor vehicle inspections Regulations which govern the items which drivers of commercial vehicles are to inspect.

The new regulations are much more strict than the old ones and new inspection report forms and schedules are needed to comply with the requirements.

NOTE: The new regulation and changes to the HTA are effective as of July 1, 2007. There will be a "soft enforcement" period until January 1, 2008.
